Today in class:
I checked homework to make certain people attempted to do it. After checking homework, students had to take the county level benchmark. Following that we introduced the scientific method and the science of forensics.

No homework this weekend.

Lateral Thinking: Captain Frank was passing through a small town when he decided to get a haircut. There was only one barber shop and it employed two barbers. One of the barbers had a nice, neatly trimmed head of hair, and the other looked like his hair had been cut with a pair of hedge clippers. Which of the two barbers should Captain Frank choose to cut his hair?

Today in class. Students were reminded to turn in their critical contact sheets. If they are not turned in by tomorrow, they will receive a silent lunch until I get the form.

Class: Students paired up to discuss exactly what they thin the nature of science is and how it can be investigated.
Homework, Students were assigned to read Section one from Chapter one in their duo- tang folders.

This will be collected on Thursday and Friday. Students who do the homework will participate in the lab. Student who do not complete the homework will do book work.

Suzie is afraid of monsters hiding under her bed. She usually runs from her bedroom door and leaps onto her bed so the monsters can't get her. Even though Suzie's bed is 12 feet from the door she still manages to switch off the light and jump into bed before her room turns dark.Since Suzie doesn't use any devices to flip the switch off, how does she acccomplish this remarkable feat?

Today's lateral question: Captain Frank went out for a walk and it started to rain. He did not have an umbrella nor was he wearing a hat, yet not a single hair on his head got wet. How is this possible?

Summary: Today in class I introduced some of the tools and resources I have provided to help students be successful this year. I pointed out while a computer and internet access makes the student's lives easier, they ARE NOT required to pass the class.
Some of the resources demonstrated included, the class website, You tube, Star Fleet on Face Book, and the class blog.
Students were cautioned that any internet use by them should be closely supervised by their parents and I spoke briefly about how photos taken from a cell phone can be geotagged. I encouraged every class to turn off geotagging on their phones as this poses a huge risk to personal privacy.

Looking forward: Tomorrow I will issue textbooks and we will talk about the online version of the book.
