RECAP:

In all classes and sections we finished up the DBMA test and I have student results to hand back and go over today. All students were given their make up work last week and given till Friday to get it caught up, including IXL. That deadline has now passed, and that offer is done. Parents were notified by e-mail or phone call with the exception of long distance numbers which I will call today. Many of you took advantage of the offer and have seen a significant jump in your grade. FANTASTIC job!

SKILLS BOOST:

Raul is conducting an experiment that measures the effect of light exposure on the amount of water absorbed by plants. His hypothesis states, Ïf a plant is exposed to more light, then it will absorb more milliliters of water." There are three groups of plants to test: plants exposed to 1, 6, and 12 hours of light. Raul's teacher will provide him with plant seedlings, soil, pots, water and growth lamps. Raul must let the teacher know the quantity of materials he needs.
How many pots and seedlings should Raul request from his teacher in order to conduct this experiment? Justify your answer based on what you know about repeated trials and experimental design. What are some possible ways errors might be introduced to the experiment?

BRAIN BENDER:

Dee Septor, the famous magician claims he can tell the score of any football game before it even starts. Many think he is psychic and possesses supernatural powers. How is it that he can be accurate about the score 99% of the time?

AGENDA:

My testing group will meet in 4-206- Be patient, this will take time and we will listen to the All call system to stay on track throughout the day

District Benchmark Review- How to use your data.

7TH GRADE-

Florida Writes Test

Preview Frog Dissection notes paying special attention to the external anatomy.

HOMEWORK: You should have previewed the frog dissection video and be ready to turn in your notes for credit.

Watch the video and take notes!

8TH GRADE-

If we finish with the DBMA data, we will begin to gather data for our egg drop.

1. Determine the mass of your eggstranaut
2. Determine the mass of your egg lander
3. Have one partner at the bottom of the stairs to retrieve your lander. This person is timing your drop
4. Have one partner ready to drop your egg lander.
5. Egg lander MUST start at the top of the railing with your lander body even with the top post.
6. Draw your picture! (step 1)
7. Determine what data you need to calculate impact speed.
8. What is the speed of your lander 2 seconds into it's descent?

Motion Webquest Discuss sections 2 and 3  Complete Task 4 for Thursday and Friday

Solving a problem in freefall.

Solve the following problem for homework. Be sure to DAP and use the 5 step method:

Wil-E-Coyote drops a bowling ball off a cliff to try to catch the Roadrunner. The cliff is 132m high.
 A. How long does it take the ball to fall to the ground? _________________
B. What is its impact velocity? _________________
C. How far does it fall in the first 3.0 seconds? _________________
 D. How fast is it going at the end of 3.0 seconds? _________________
 E. How long would it take the same ball to fall if the cliff was on the moon (g = 1.63 m/s2 )?

6TH GRADE-
If we finish with the DBMA data, we will begin exploration of the universe

you MUST have your rocket here, in class by March 10th, 2017

What's inside our solar system?- Write your answers in your COW under today's date.

Take notes over these videos:

Speed and acceleration Notes

Parachute Egg Lander Goals:

  1. Be able to understand Newton's Law of Gravitation and how to apply it.
  2. Know Newton's three laws and how they apply to everyday life.
  3. Be able to describe the motion of a two and three-dimensional object
  4. Show proficiency in designing and building a device capable of landing an egg safely on the ground and calculate how much force it would experience if dropped on Mars.

6th Grade Honor's Earth Space Science:

6th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Earth’s Structure and Changes Over Time

Unit Essential Question: How do the processes of the rock cycle and human activities alter the surface of Earth over time?
How do the processes of the rock cycle and human activities alter the surface of Earth over time?
Key Learning Statement: The shape of the land changes over time through two major processes, both natural and manmade.  Natural changes occur through weathering, erosion, and deposition which are agents of the rock cycle.  Manmade changes occur through deforestation, urbanization, desertification, air, land, water quality, and change in flow and pollution of water.

Chapters 10 and 6 in the textbook. If you are out sick, you are expected to read these chapters and if you miss a lab day, you will need to do the chapter section reviews, "Try this"problems and math practice questions for credit.

Homework: IXL nightly

7th Grade Honors Life Science

7th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Human Body
Unit Essential Question: How are the systems of the human body organized so that they work together to maintain homeostasis?

Key Learning Statement: The body is made up of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.  These systems have different functions, working together to maintain homeostasis, and protect against pathogens.

Homework:

Biodigital Human App

8th Grade Honors Physical Science

8th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Properties of Matter
Unit Essential Question: What determines the properties of matter?
Key Learning Statement: The atom is the basic unit of matter.  The structure, motion, arrangement and energy of the atom determine the properties of matter.
