Today's Quote:

Order of Bards Ovates and Druids (OBOD)'s portrait.
To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.
What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.
And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand Utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.'
~ Howard Zinn

Recap:

Biology classes on Wednesday got a chance to stretch their brains using Kahoot. Classes got really competitive as we reviewed. I gave out the Disease Detectives worksheets for all students to preread for the upcoming lab today. Earth Space science also got the opportunity to review using Kahoot and they were given homework over plate tectonic theory. I reminded all the science classes that they had a quizlet activity due for homework by 8pm last night.
Intensive English classes got their compete on while practicing more with dependent and independent clauses. We still have a little work to do in this area so we will keep reviewing. Classes also went to the computer lab and signed into their Readworks.org account to look over their assigned articles. These are due Friday.

Students who correct ALL the mistakes on their returned papers will receive 10 points more. Make your corrections on a separate piece of paper and staple it to the actual paper, turn it in. Example: If you scored a 60 on an assignment and you correct ALL of the mistakes, I will add 10 points to make it a 70.

Entry Task/ Brain Bender:

Shadow and other avid mountain climbers paid a lot of money to be the first to scale a mountain. After several days of climbing they finally reached the pinnacle, and to their dismay, found a cabin and three frozen bodies. Since Shadow and his fellow climbers were the first men ever to climb to the summit, how could this be possible?
