Today's Lateral Thinking question:

Art Conn was tossing an ordinary coin in the air and noting how many times it turned up heads. He began to think that he had a very special coin since he had tossed the coin in the air 11 times and each time it had come up heads. Seeing Duncan Drivel across the room, Art walked over and challenges him to a small wager. Art proposed to bet one hundred hawkeyes to one that if he tossed the coin in the air and let it fall naturaly, it would turn up heads. What is the probability that the coin will come up heads on the twelfth toss?

Valence electrons for beginners

Valence Electronsand Lewis Dot Symbols. ADVANCED STUDENTS WATCH BOTH

Today's Class:

Today in class I finished up my periodic table notes and introduced the topic of Valence electrons (The electrons in the outermost energy level of an atom).

All classes were given 10 minutes to read through the Sciencesaurus on pages 259- 264 AND TAKE NOTES. This section covers the Molecules and compounds and chemical bonding.

Period 6 took notes on the periodic table and then read the above section in the Sciencesaurus

For a further simplified explanation, please check out this website that I will be referring to in class. Atoms and Compounds.

Here is a link to my Power Point so students have the notes! The Periodic Table

Today's homework:

The materials we are covering can be found in Chapter 10 of the student textbook. All classes should study chapter 10 section on and chapter 9 and prepare for a test/ FCA over the Periodic table and atomic structures.

Period 6, should also do the above AND take 2 column notes over what they have read. Both will be collected.
Periods 3, & 4 Should complete
The worksheet: Atomic Basics.Today we will go over electron configurations and I will collect the worksheet.

Need 2 Know

This is a new section I have added to our blog that covers the information in the Sciencesaurus resource from our classroom. It has all of the Need to know information for class. (Consider it the condensed version of Physical Science)

Free Resource!

Photo Math. A cool app for your phone that allows you to point the camera at a math problem and have it help solve it with you including all of the steps needed.
