Recap:
In the lead up to our frog dissection, students today began to measure their lung capacity using spirometers. We will finish this experiment today as they record resting lung capacity and then exercise vigorously for 3 minutes ad then re-measure their volume.
6th graders turned in their hypotheses to The President's questions on earthquakes and we moved forward with task one, plotting 2 weeks worth of earthquake data on a world map. Students had to use the IRIS data sheet in the lab web quest and map every earthquake above a 2.5 magnitude according to its latitude and longitude. Additionally, they were to place a red dot on the paper for any earthquake below 100Km and a blue dot for any quake less than 100Km in depth. 8th graders calculated the grade points they would spend on their egg landers and chose a company name for their production team. We had a few minutes to look over Task one on their web quest and I described Newton's first law using the flying pterodactyl and the long board the room. Basically, the LAW OF INERTIA states that an object will preserve it's velocity so long as no force in its motion's direction act upon it.

We are going to apply an element of this risk to your egg landers.
The fine print:
- You may work individually or as partners.
- You must form a corporate name.
- You will purchase ALL materials for your egg lander vehicle. (I may have some of them in the class, but I cannot supply everyone, everything) I will supply one "eggstronaut" to each individual or partner group.
- You must use the following "risk" points guide when purchasing materials:
- If you manage to successfully land your vehicle with your eggstronaut intact and within the target zone, you will get all of your RISK grade points back.
- As payment, you will also receive one "get out of test free" card, usable on any regular class test or quiz.
- The landing zone: you must land within the target zone. Two grade points will be subtracted from your overall total for every .5 meters outside the target zone. In the real world, precision and accuracy are extremely important and costly in both time and money if they are not part of the constraints of any project.
