Today's Quote:

'Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty if only we have the eyes to see them.' ~ John Ruskin

Recap:
In Biology 1 students went to the lab to finish up the activity, "What's Wrong with Mike?" In this lab provided by UF's CEPET Program. Students got the chance to apply the knowledge the learned about how the body defends itself against viral and bacterial pathogens. In the lab they explored the symptoms of several diseases and used them to diagnose the possible causes for Mike's illness. After narrowing their focus they proceeded to gather evidence to support their hypothesis that he had either viral or bacterial meningitis. After performing several tests on a sample of cerebrospinal fluid they analyzed their results and determined Mike had contracted bacterial meningitis. Working together in groups, they finished their lab packet.
In English students began writing their final draft of their essay on the improvements to hospital rooms. We almost have a class set of working laptops for the students to use so we can work in class.
In Earth science, students continued to learn about the Continental drift theory and sea-floor spreading theory and the supporting evidence for both that eventually lead to the modern Plate tectonic theory.

Students who correct ALL the mistakes on their returned papers will receive 10 points more. Make your corrections on a separate piece of paper and staple it to the actual paper, turn it in. Example: If you scored a 60 on an assignment and you correct ALL of the mistakes, I will add 10 points to make it a 70.

Entry Task/ Brain Bender:

A man walked into the "Salty Dog Tavern" and ordered a fish fillet sandwich, a glass of dark rum, and looked around asking about "female company."The proprietor turned to him and said, "Look, sailor, the first two requests are no problem, but the third request is out of my hands." What made the owner think the man was a sailor?
