Today's Quote:

Recap:

In every class, with the impending storm, we decided to go old school and take notes so we can try to get caught up. That will continue today just in case we have another storm. 6th-grade dove into the notes on atmosphere, 7th grade began notes over the Cell Theory using a funny little video The Wacky World of The Cell Theory. 8th grade started notes over the properties of matter but had to go back for a primer on the Periodic Table of elements.

Over the weekend, students who have already left Horizon came bac to help us get our gardens back in order after hurricane Matthew.

The only damage we had on the farm was the shade cloth being torn loose in our shade house and a door that was tied shut, breaking it's cord and blowing open. We were extremely fortunate that we managed to get the plastic off the greenhouses before the winds hit.According to our weather computer on the farm we received winds gusts of 61 mph.

Brain bender:

If a grandfather clock takes five seconds to strike 6 o'çlock, how many seconds will it take to strike 12 o'çlock? Why?

Agenda:

(This should be written in your planner every day)

Notes today- Show me your notes over the following:

  1. 6th grade- Atmosphere Notes
    1. The First Earth
  2. 7th grade-  Cell Theory, Prokaryote, and Eukaryote
    1. Parts of a microscope
  3. 8th grade- Properties of Matter
We will cover these slides extremely fast since it was your homework and I will be entertaining questions you have.

6th Grade Honor's Earth Space Science:

6th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Weather and Atmosphere:
Unit Essential Question: How do the relationships among the five spheres affect life on Earth
How do the relationships among the five spheres affect life on Earth?
Key Learning Statement: The atmosphere is layered and within these layers are weather patterns that affect life and are caused by interactions among spheres. Water is constantly being recycled through the spheres.  Heat transfer affects the development of weather.

Homework:

TIPS- Objects and Temperature- Due Wednesday

7th Grade Honors Life Science

7th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Cell Structure and Function
Unit Essential Question: How has technology enhanced our understanding of cells?

Key Learning Statement: As microscope technology advances, scientists understanding of cells is changing. Scientists continue to grow in their understanding of how a cell's structure and function are related to help maintain homeostasis.

Homework:

Tips: Atoms and Cells

8th Grade Honors Physical Science

8th Grade Class Information and Syllabus

Properties of Matter
Unit Essential Question: What determines the properties of matter?
Key Learning Statement: The atom is the basic unit of matter.  The structure, motion, arrangement and energy of the atom determine the properties of matter.
