Wednesday November 15th, 2017- SPIRIT WEEK!

Today's Quote:
'We need to go back to our relationship with nature and understand that those trees are our lungs. The earth is recycling as our body. The rivers are our circulation. This air is our breath. And the star stuff, the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen that comes from distant galaxies is actually the molecules of your body.'
~ Deepak Chopra

Recap:
In Intensive English our students reviewed their latest vocabulary words and got caught up with their Readworks articles. We now have a laptop cart in our room so students have access to computers for the entire class period.
In Earth Space Science, students continued to cut out their continents and glue them together with the way that Alfred Wegener saw them as they attempted to recreate a map of his evidence for continental drift.
Biology was abuzz with discussion over the characteristics of living things. We were in agreement that all living things share similar traits that we call the characteristics of life. These are:
cellular organization
* the ability to reproduce
Metabolism (obtaining and using energy)
Homeostasis (maintaining a balance between your internal and external environments)
* Heredity (The ability to pass on their genetic information into the future)
Responsiveness (the ability to respond to stimuli in the environment)
* Growth and development (through anabolism)

Following this, a lively discussion ensued where we pinpointed the characteristics scientists have trouble with when it comes to viruses. see the * above. We then launched into a discussion of the different methods of reproduction and how plants began this whole process.

Students who correct ALL the mistakes on their returned papers will receive 10 points more. Make your corrections on a separate piece of paper and staple it to the actual paper, turn it in. Example: If you scored a 60 on an assignment and you correct ALL of the mistakes, I will add 10 points to make it a 70.

Entry Task/ Brain Bender:

Mr. and Mrs. Clatter had five children. Half of them are boys. How is this possible?
