Recap:

Students were reminded that when they enter class they are to come in, get out the materials I tell them they need and then go to their seat. Currently they are answering the Bellringer/ Essential question in their COW. This is to be completed by the time I am done with attendance and no extra time will be given. At the end of class after they have gotten their belongings packed up, they are to return to their seat and revise their bellringer/essential question based on what we have learned. Once OneNote is working they will create a Bellringers/essential questions page. It will follow this format:
Date: ____       Question: _____        Opening Answer:_____     Revision: ____. The revision MUST show the timestamp. This will be a 10 point practice grade every day if completed.

Still getting class strategies and routines in place as we move forward. We briefly discussed the flipped classroom strategy I use in class and what is expected of students in this type of class to be successful. Several people voiced concern that they do not have reliable internet access and this is an issue, but I pledged to work with them by making myself available before school, during lunches and sometimes after school. Students can come to class to get their work done. I arrive every day by 6:30am. If you want to come in early, please let me know so I can tell the office and meet you at the door.

We reviewed the lab safety rap video again and I reminded students they must score a 100% on the lab safety test which I posted for them to review online.

I reminded students that I will be learning how to use OneNote tomorrow and they will have the syllabus and other class documents in their notebook as soon as I can get it set up.
Students asked about science fair. All regular Biology 1 classes will conduct a research project that CAN go to science fair if they want to go. It will be in a different format than an actual project and will be reported electronically and presented to the class. If you want to go to the science fair that is an option you can explore on your own. AP Biology is required to be part of the science fair, BUT can report their research project in an electronic format if they choose.

Near the end of class we began our Fortune Telling Fish lab by completing Pre-lab questions 1 and 2. This is your ticket to lab today. I must see that you AND your partner answered these two questions.

AP Biology students finished up the exercise in context in science.

The course calendar at the top of this blog is how I communicate. Please create a bookmark to the calendar on your computer.

Homework was assigned. Students were to watch the online discussion of Probabilistic Fallacies and Bayes Rule. They were to write down the answers to the questions posed in the assignment and prepare for discussion today.

Agenda:

Mental Health Check-in
Bell-ringer/ Essential question (Use proper format and ticket out the door)
Lab Safety Pre-test (Skyward)

Bell-ringer/ Essential Question:

Use this format for your Bell-ringer:
Date: ____       Question: _____        Opening Answer:_____     Revision: ____.
What is a probabilistic fallacy and how does recognizing it, help me clarify evidence?
1. According to the article, why do we search for evidence?
2. People tend to think of evidence in two extremes; either it proves something right, or it proves something wrong, but that is not the case. What does evidence do?
3. Evidence exists on a spectrum. What does this mean?

Submit your notebook for grading as a ticket out the door.
