Recap:
Yesterday in class I set the stage for where we are headed in each class with the new units. 8th grade has now broken away to cover atomic structure and 7th grade is now discovering cells. For the remainder of the year the format on this blog has changed. I pointed out to each class that they need to be certain that when looking for their work, they make certain they are in the proper area of the blog; 8th grade honors, 7th grade honors or 8th grade physical science.
I collected the student homework where they had to fit their body through a 3x5 card and it was hilarious! Students came up with some very creative ideas and I accepted them all. The only way they did not get a good grade was if they did not even try.
I introduced the brain bender and pointed out that I will share the answers the following day.
In 8th grade honors, students began to become "sages" in the history of the atomic theory through reading the article. Each team had 5 minutes to read and determine what was the most important parts from their assigned paragraphs. After 5 minutes, one team ember stood up and became the traveling sage while the other sage remained at their table. When instructed to do so, the travelers moved to the next group and spent three minutes sharing with the seated sage and then the seated one shared what they thought was important. This process continued through the end of class. (we ran out of time and will continue today. I had to clarify some rules and expectations:
- Sages had to verbally tell the other person what they thought was important. No just handing each other their hi-lited paper and then copying. This requires discussion and repetition.
- Remain focused. Conversations MUST stay on the article as they only had 3 minutes to communicate a great deal of information.
I went through the homework and said it was due Wednesday but could not get the Google forms to load from the school computer so that assignment will not be due until Thursday and Friday.
In 7th grade science students began the unit reading about cell structure and function unsing their Sciencesaurus. We will continue this today. I went through the homework and said it was due Wednesday but could not get the Google forms to load from the school computer so that assignment will not be due until Thursday and Friday.
In 8th grade physical science student used their Sciencesaurus to begin vocabulary on the atom and it's structure. We will continue this today. Science timelines are due today.
Science Fair Projects due!
Brain Bender:
A horse travels a certain distance each day. Strangely enough, two of it's legs travel 30 km each day and the other two legs travel nearly 31 km. It would seem that two of the horses legs must be almost a kilometer ahead of the other two legs, but this is not the case. Since the horse is quite normal, how is this situation possible?
Agenda:
If you are using your online or home textbook we are in Unit 3, Chapter 8 Understanding the Atom pg 304- 334
8th Grade Honors:
Introduction to Atomic Theory. Read the article highlighting any words you may not know so we can make sure we are speaking the same language.
Absent?:
Read the pages above and complete the section assessments, 1 for each day you are absent AND the Chapter review.
Homework:
Watch The History of the Atomic Theory and complete the Google form using information from the Article and the video. Due Thursday and Friday.

7th Grade Honors:
If you are using your online or home textbook we are in Unit 1, Chapter 2 Cell Structure and Function pg 46-86
Introduction to Cell Theory. Using your Sciencesaurus read about structure and function and the cell. With a table partner, create in your COW a concept map of the vocabulary words so we know we are speaking the same language. (see example in class)
Absent?:
Read the pages above and complete the section assessments, 1 for each day you are absent AND the Chapter review.
Homework:
Watch the video The Wacky History of the Cell Theory and complete the Google form on the video Due Thursday and Friday.
Remember: If your family would like to adopt on of the chickens from our upcoming project, I need a signed letter from your parent stating that you will care for the chicken. I will collect letters and number them so it's "first come, first served."

8th Grade Physical Science
If you are using your online or home textbook we are in Unit 3, Chapter 8 Understanding the Atom pg 304- 334
Using your Sciencesaurus In your COW copy all bold faced words about Atomic Structure into your notebook. Define each term. Classwork grade
In the section on The Evolution of Atomic Theory find each scientists name and write it into your COW then write down what their contribution to the atomic theory. Cornell Notes fashion
In your textbook begin reading on Page 304. Turn each paragraph heading into a question and then find the answer in the text and write it into your COW.
Absent?:
Read the pages above and complete the section assessments, 1 for each day you are absent AND the Chapter review.
In class today watch Structure of the Atom; Early models
Homework:
Turn in your Atomic Scientist timelines today! No homework tonight.
