Today's Quote:

Recap:

Yesterday in class students in Biology turned in their Secret Life of the Cell worksheets and we began exploring the origins of the cell theory and the Endosymbiotic theory. Many students were fascinated by the structure of the cell and all of the organelles inside. This link will take you to a Quizlet to help you study them. First period began going over the cell organelles and their functions and we still need to review the endosymbiotic theory and the history of the cell theory, which we've done in most of the other biology classes. I should be able to set up my demonstration today of how large molecules move across a semi-permeable membrane using three eggs that have had the shells dissolved away. We will cover the characteristics of living things and viruses today.
Earth space science began their discussion over the formation of the Earth and it's layers and we will delve into Plate Tectonic theory this week.
Intensive English students are working with identifying dependent and Independent clauses while simultaneously studying vocabulary and dissecting an article about hospitals of the ancient world.

Students got a chance to practice their vocabulary words as we continued looking at different types of context clues. This week we are looking at direct explanation, a strategy where the author includes the actual meaning of the word following the use of the word in a sentence. I also had time to explain how one clause can refer to another one. Following our vocabulary practice session, we began diving into our directed reading packet. Students in 7th period learned how we infer information from an image and how to use this data in writing. We will continue this next week.

Students who correct ALL the mistakes on their returned papers will receive 10 points more. Make your corrections on a separate piece of paper and staple it to the actual paper, turn it in. Example: If you scored a 60 on an assignment and you correct ALL of the mistakes, I will add 10 points to make it a 70.
